About Us

Welcome,

As I sit here writing in the inspirational studio setting of The Artworks, an independent art school founded to teach traditional arts and crafts in the heritage setting of Shaw Lodge Mills, a Grade 2* Victorian Mill complex in Halifax, West Yorkshire, I am excited to be telling you about our new Art Club. I hope you will find the information on these pages of interest to you and will join us in making our art club the best available.

The Artworks Art Club aims to provide a fun, positive, stimulating, and safe environment where its members can explore their curiosity for the visual arts.  We want our members to develop their creativity and imagination through a rich and varied programme of ‘directed activities’ at the core of which is an emphasis on building a vocabulary of traditional visual arts skills; this is an ethos which runs across the whole school in its wider arts provision.

The club is designed to cater for 12 – 15 year olds who are gifted and talented in the visual arts and who would like to practice and learn more outside of their school curriculum.

The happiness, wellbeing and safety of our members are of paramount importance to us which is why we ensure our resources are relevant and age specific; the environment is conducive to creativeness, fun and exploration; and our named volunteer club leaders are CRB checked, trained on our policies and procedures and have a passion for the arts and arts education.

On these pages you will get the key and relevant information you need to know about our club and how to complete enrolment with us.  All of this information is also nicely packaged up in a ‘welcome pack’ which is available for download so that you can read at your convenience. If we’ve missed anything or you have a query, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Kind Regards

Simon Smith

Art Club Co-Ordinator & Leader
